Product Liability Lawyers - Playground Safety Tips
in Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens, Nassau County, and Suffolk County
Our product liability lawyers have assembled a list of tips parents can use when taking their child to a new playground. Just remember to keep your eye on your child at all times, and stay within close range.
1. Thoroughly inspect the playground equipment before allowing your child to use it
2. Check for broken glass or other unsafe materials
3. Check to see that the equipment is sturdy and well-anchored
4. Check to see that swings and other equipment with moving parts is in good shape and poses no hazards
5. Check to see if the playground equipment matches well with your child’s age and abilities
6. Check the ground cover under any equipment involving height. Concrete is unacceptable.
7. Do not let your child out of your sight
8. Brief your child on the dangers of talking to strangers before play
9. Make sure other children are not playing too roughly
10. Discuss any potential dangers or hazards with your child ahead of time
11. Interact with your child on the playground – If you have a young child that is climbing, stay only a foot or two behind him/her in case of a fall
12. Have a plan in case of separation
If you do find unsafe conditions, notify your local Parks and Recreation Department or the owner if it is on private property.
If you or a loved one has a playground injury in New York, please contact the product liability lawyers of Silberstein, Awad & Miklos, serving clients in Nassau and Suffolk Counties and Brooklyn, the Bronx and Queens, Staten Island and Westchester County
